Yesterday I got home from work and filled up my washing up bowl in my kitchen as I usually do to do the washing up. It took a long time, as the water was coming out slowly.

Then later, when I went to wash my hands, the water spat at me a bit and then just stopped all together.

At this point, I went upstairs and checked the hot water tap in the bathroom sink and the bath. Neither of them had any water coming out of them.

I left it about half an hour, then tried again, and just a bit came out.

The cold water tap works in the bathroom, however, a couple of weeks a go, the washer broke on my cold tap in the kitchen, so I stopped the water supply by screwing the screw under the sink and am yet to replace the washer, so that tap doesn't work, I thought that may have something to do with it?

After leaving it over night, I was able to shower this morning, but the hot water stopped coming out, literally minutes after it started.

Is there any way I can fix this myself?

This sounds like trash and mineral buildup in your water system. If you don't flush your water heater out on a regular basis minerals can build up and get sucked into your hot water pipes clogging up aerators and cartridge inlet ports.
First let's start with the water heater and make sure that it's clear. For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by flushing on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run until the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by white or yellow grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear. Now flush out your hot water lines on ALL fixtures that are affected . Now pull each aerator and clean the screens. Be sure you put them back togather the same way you took them out. Don't forget to flush it out every month. Your heater will thank you for it. Let me know how you make out. Good luck, Tom
