Hi I'm megan and I have 3 styes, 2 on the left eye and one on the right. The ones on the left eye I have one at the top and one the bottom, the one at the top been there over a year and the on at the bottom been there for like 7 weeks. Then the one on my right eye that been there going on a week now. So I went to the doctor and all he said I'm gone need surgery. So please help me get rid of my stys another way!! What's wrong with my eyes?

When I get them I usually put a warm washcloth over them for about 10 minutes once a day, that usually causes them to rise to the surface and rupture. But, if a doc said you need surgery, then you probably do. :)

If you have had these for over a year, I don't think they are stys. I am not an eye doctor or nurse, and have not been taught this yet. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come here to help you.

I think you need a second opinion. If the doctor says you need surgery, this is most likely your only option.

I had the same thing for 2 years and they went away when I used the washcloth trick. If you don't feel that u need surgery, get a 2nd opinion from another doc first. Hope this helps!

Try a (warm)wet teabag on the eyes ,until you get to another doctor for a second opinion, who may or may not recommend surgery.

It may be a chalazion, and not a stye. Warm washcloths won't hurt anything. I personally use rice baggies (take old panty hose, put in a cup of uncooked rice, tie shut. Heat for 20-30 seconds in the microwave (try the low end and adjust... rice gets really hot fast!), then put on eye). The rice conforms to the eye better and doesn't drip, and it smells nice.

The doctor I went to said that cortisone injections could be used as a second stage, but that sometimes surgery was the only solution.

I have had a few styes and I agree with everyone else... they usually go away with treatment from a warm washcloth.

I, personally, have never heard of someone needing surgery for a stye. I would get second opinion, and in the meantime use a warm washcloth, and wipe the area of the stye frequently.

Generally surgery is recommended if the stye has been around for a long time (several weeks, at least) or if it is frequently recurring. I had one that would show up and come to a head in 36-48 hours, and did this about every 10 days. The doctor said that we might have to do surgery on it, because it does become very annoying, but he wanted to hold off and see if it would clear up on its own because it was really close to the lash line.
