Washing machine is 15 years old. Problem is: water doesn't fill up tank. Keeps
Running outside in the yard. Wife jiggles the knob. Then its okay. Doesn't do it all the time.
What is there some kind a trap somewhere in the bottom of the machine that stays open allowing the water to drain out of the machine

Do you mean it's not filling the tub? Why is the water running out in the yard? Doesn't it go through a drain?

IF the dishwasher hose drain is not up higher then the bottom of washer bottom the water will keep[ running out .that drain hose needs to be kept above washer water level at least. It sounds like the switch isd bad. I'd buy a new dishwasher be \for going to the cost of having a new switch installed. You said it's 15 years old hope this helps, but if you get a new one make sure drain line syays above water level inside washer. . ; F.B.E.

I may have been wrong. Talking to my wife. She tells me it's the inlet water supply.
It keeps running, and running. If you jiggle the control knob the machine fills.
Otherwise the water goes out the drainpipe into the back yard. Maybe its something
With the cycle control knob it seems to stick on one cycle?
