I have a Hampton Bay ceiling with remote control. It is a rather large fan installed on a vaulted ceiling. The fan model is AC 385 (not sure if 385 is part of the model number). It has two light fixtures. One on above the fan and one below. Both are also remote controlled. I vacuum dust from the fan blades and off the top light fixture. Now the fan doesn't work. It does not have any "pull-chains." Where is the "sensor" located for the remote control? The wiring where I think the sensor is located seems to be fine. Did I mess it up somehow?

Mostlikely your connections. I would check them again and make sure the maurrttes are not lose.

Do any of your lights still work with the remote and have you checked your breaker in the panel?

The "breaker" is fine. Everything in the room works. The lights on the fan will not come on with the remote. Can't get them on, period. No other way to switch them or the fan on.

I'm not sure how you could have messed the fan up by vaccuuming it. Have you tried changing the bulbs?

I have not changed the bulbs. Reason is, the fan doesn't work either. Seems no electricity to fan/light at all. Guess I'll check with a voltmeter.

Well something must have come loose. Visual inspection is pretty much a necessity.

The remote still works, i.e. LED lights up?

Are the dip switches accessible where they could have been bumped?

Please allow me to back up a little bit. Everything was working just fine until you vacuumed the light fixture, correct.

Since the light fixtures connections with the fan are under a cap what do you think you clobbered?

Is there a wall switch that also operates the fan and lights? Is there a GFCI upstream of the power for the light and fan.

When you drop the fan down to inspect the wiring would you also split the fan and lighting block and lets get a look at the wiring there also.

Can you send us some pics of the wiring and the light package?

Gosh, thanks for all the tips. Breaker is OK. Remote lights up. I don't think I've clobbered anything when vacuuming. I tried to be careful. I've been up on ladder checking the top of the fan where the wiring is located. Looks like a (1/8" or 3/16") very small sensor at the end of a black wire that is wire-tied to the electrical connector, but no place it would have unplugged from. No wall switch. Electricians installed the receptacle specifically for a rather heavy ceiling fan. A very perplexing problem. I'll take a couple of pics and send tomorrow.

This is a confusing problem. It could be a coincidence, the receiver could have gone bad with no connection to the vaccuuming. After we confirm there is power to it, we need to troubleshoot it like any other remote fan not working.

I'll check the electrical this weekend to make sure there is power getting to the fan. Many thanks.

Was there any resolution to this? The fan on my one of three Hampton Bay AC 385's stopped working last week, same problem. The remote runs the other two fine and I think there's power getting to it as the lights on it are still on.

Negative. I've since called the King of Fans number listed in the FAQ and, after being switched to several different people, was transferred to "Air Cool" where a very helpful lady agreed it was the IR receiver, and has sent out a replacement set. Odd thing was, she didn't ask any questions like when or where it was bought. I assume there's some sort of lifetime warranty on it.
