Scientific notation converts the number into a form consisting of a number less than 10 times 10 raised to the appropriate power. For example:

12 = 1.2 \cdot 10^1\\
120 = 1.2 \cdot 10^2\\
1200 = 1.2 \cdot 10^3\\

etc.

For your problem then, 2,750,389 is between 10^6 and 10^7,
so you convert it as follows:

2,750,389 = 2.750389 \cdot 10^6

Note that in doing this I moved the decimal point 6 places to the left, so that tells me the correct exponent to use is 6.

Hope this helps.
