Tells me every time I boot that "The S.C.U. is currently in diagnostic or Select startup mode". No it is not. It is in normal mode. I select the check box and start again, sometimes. Still comes up. I run msconfig.exe. It is in Normal mode. The message still comes up. What is going on and what do I have to do to get rid of this annoyance?

Do you have a dual-boot system? If so, the msconfig utility has to be in Selective Mode to successfully run both OS's. If you don't have dual boot, there's a registry setting that might prevent the warnings.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your computer by editing the Registry.
1. Click Start > Run > and type "regedit" (without quotes)
2. Click the little + beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Click the + beside SOFTWARE
4. Click the + beside Microsoft
5. Click the + beside Windows
6. Click the + beside CurrentVersion
7. Click Run (don't use the little +)
8. Look for a key called "Msconfig Reminder" or similar, and delete it by right clicking it and selecting Delete
9. Restart your PC
If that doesn't help, I don't know what will :)
Hope this helps

Thanks for the idea.
There was no key called msconfig reminder or similar.
I guess I'll stay confused.
