I have a john deere lawn mover (L111) that has no power climbing hill and the longer that I mow the worse it gets. The engine runs fine and there is no noticeable change in the tone of the engine. But when I try to climb a hill I can hear a whine coming from the trans. Dose anyone have an answer, I would be grateful

Could possibly be low on fluid, or the belt could be getting stretched.

I have the L110 and have the similar noise as you do. The dealer says these transaxles make a lot of noise sometimes - especially after being pushed past there limits. In my case, I towed a trailer around my yard that was loaded heavily, and it started making lots of noise after that. My forward direction still works good, but reverse is a little weak. I attribute it to excess wear. You can check the oil level in the transaxle to see if it is low. Maybe a little heavier oil would help counter some of the wear (check with the dealer). The dealer did say these are light duty transaxles, and are not the same ones in the larger John Deeres. Hope this helps.

Be careful about the oil weights also.

I know the problem you are experiencing. If the belt(drive) is not stretched as mowerman suggested, I would go to your dealer and order a traction/drive spring for a 2008 (yes, not a typo, 2008) model. This will solve your problem. Ask me no further questions about this. LOL

Trust me on this one. I am the JD man. As soon as the dealer can get the 2008 tranction/drive spring, get one and put it on. Just some inside scoop

Kind of like soaking the trimmer line. I know it works, I do it myself. But I too said that it is plastic, how can water change the durability of something made of plastic, but it does something. I can not explain it, neither could our sales rep that came by and told me about it.
