My new puppy is 8 weeks old. We've had him for about a week now, and when we first brought him home he was doing great with housetraining. I would watch him carefully and rush him outside if he seemed he had to go. I also hustled him right out after eating and napping. Each time he eliminated outside I praised him with a small treat and hugs and kisses. Now, suddenly, it seems as if he is "saving some" for inside. I take him out as usual and he goes... #1 & 2... then he comes inside and ends up going on my carpets! Why is he doing this all of the sudden? He does sleep in his crate and night and for naps, and of course when no one is home. He has never gone in there. Can anyone help??

Housebreaking is kind of a moving target. He may be distracted by all the exciting things outside and quit before he is finished. Don't rush him in too soon. That can also result in delaying elimination all together if he catches on to eliminating means immediately being drug inside. Let him play around a little, the more activity, the more likely he will be forced to finish.

It sounds like you are doing well. Take a look at the sticky starting at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/information-articles-our-dogs-expert-labman-53153.html#post251802
