My brother Ricki, saw a city situation on the door of a rented out trail that my mom owned and he peeked inside and saw the place in disarray. It broke through the door and took my son's guitars, amps, radios, VCR and Game boy and lots of other stuff and called me to tell me what my son had done and was going to hold his stuff until it was cleaned out properly.

Now I have seen the trailer: there was a broken central air and heat, no hot water, sand would come out of the faucet, and holes in the flooring. I told my son to heat up the water and drink spring water. I bought him an aircondition and loaned him a heater. My mother was suffering from Dementia, which we didn't know at that time, and couldn't afford to fix things that needed repair. Meanwhile, my son was not paying rent, he had no job, and she let him live there the best way he could.

At that point I an two of my son's friend and cleaned out the place until you could eat an egg off the floor. Better condition that when my son moved in it. Since my brother over reacted to the situation (when I read stated: a $500 fine a day after the dead line if the place wasn't repair - leaves on the roof and algae growing on the siding) I had him wash the siding and rake off the roof. The repairs were done in time and no fine was issued. But meanwhile my brother kept his things and allowed his older son to use the guitar and amps over someones' else house for a whole year.

I was told it was Extortion and my son should have filed charges for the theft. Could he have done that?

I am sorry, no idea what you are talking about.

File charges against who ? If you know who broke in, yes file charges,

What was extortion, if you werer forced to fix a place up??
