Trinkett's been a bit "off" recently (you know... there's nothing MAJOR that you can put your finger on, but a lot of little things that just add up to something not quite right), so I took her in to the vet. Who seems to think that it's most likely allergies, possibly with a little colitis. The guidelines I have right now are to cut back on the treats (in case there is something in there that doesn't agree with her stomach, and/or that she is allergic to), and I have an antihistamine that I am supposed to give her in the morning and evening for now and see how that goes. And her dog bed is getting cleaned, since she seems to be worse at night.

So.. any other general things I can do? I've heard that allergies are because of an immune system that is out of whack, so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do holistically to make this better. Or is it just a wait and see kind of thing?

Allergies are caused by the body becoming sensitized to something. Often the best control is to identify it and remove it. A holistic diet is much less likely to help than those selling holistic diet supplies suggest. Take a look at some of the banner ads here. People are making money on holistic diets.

An antihistamine often will reduce the symptoms of an allergy. If it seems to help, then it may be worth doing blood work to find the problem. Or you could try some different chows. Keep working with your vet.

Well, today she is much more her normal self. They also expressed her anal glands, so that might have been the cause. I'll keep my eyes open and see how she does the next few days.
