We had tenants that were going to sign a year lease but decided that they were no longer going to stay in South Carolina and would be moving at the end of July. So we let them stay through the end of July. They moved out on July 26th and now they say they are owed a prorated amount for the 5 or 6 days when they left early. Do they have a right to a prorated amount when they were on a month to month basis?

No.

I suggest you become familiar with your states landlord tenant laws. They ARE the rules of the landlord business. It's not a good idea to go into business and not know the rules.

You can find the rules of your state on this forum at the top of the previous page on a "sticky note".

No, you can of course give your money away if you wish.

They are required to give you a 30 day notice, normally that starts and end on a rental period.
