I have a male and female daschund, she was in heat the last two weeks of July and into August. Her nipples and glands bigger. How can I tell about when she is due to have her puppies? I'm not sure when they mated for sure cause they are together all day long in the same space.

If you take her to the vet and spend a little money they will tell you. A responsible pet owner would have made sure that a vet was involved in her care before she became pregnant. Bringing helpless little puppies in this world is a huge responsibility. I hope you step up to the plate and get the mom and pups proper care. Also I hope that you check out their prospective homes, to insure that they get decent places to live not in homes where they will be abused or neglected. We have many dashschunds in foster and rescue homes. I hope that your puppies will not be included in that group someday. Good luck on your unresearched endeavor.

A vet has been involved with her care, she is up to date with her shots, and everything else. My mother-in-law works at a vet clinic. I was just asking if there was a way to tell before I took her to the clinic. As far as there homes go, I know who they are going to already, which are all very good homes. I was just looking for some advice before going to vet, if there was a way to tell if they are actually pregnant or if it is a phantom pregnancy.

I have to admire bushg's restraint in answering your question. She is a very caring person that deeply loves dogs.

If she started her discharge mid July, she would have been fertile at the end of the month, and late in late September the world will be gifted with more unneeded puppies. How can you be unaware your bad decisions have added to the misery of this world? Do you not care about the millions of dogs slaughtered for lack of homes? At great expense to the taxpayers? Do you know many people that love dogs give hours of their time and own money trying to save homeless dogs? You just let it happen?

Well, I am sorry that you feel this way. I love my animals very much. I will be closing my profile with this site as soon as possible. I have been reading replies to people questions about this today and have viewed many of these. I feel that the questions asked are because this is supposed to be answers from experts, not a place where you put someone down for supposed "irresponsibilities". Breeders bring dogs into the same world, on purpose. Do you say the same thing to them?

Those that have to ask very basic questions are far more likely to produce the misery causing poor quality dogs.

Labman thank you for your kind words. You were right I tried very hard to be civil. I just hope the mention of a rescue will make her search for one and she can see how many well intentioned dashschunds owners gave them up. I doubt it, but at least the seed has been planted. I do love animals, it makes my heart break because people are so callous with them. I do not think the op is planning on signing back on. I get so tired of hearing posters talking about breeding dashschunds. It seems as though if there is a breeding question then 9 0ut of 10 times it is this breed of dogs. These poor dogs have enough problems with their backs and to add extra weight of puppies, without involving the recommendations of a vet makes my blood boil.

I think it is the wonders of Google that somehow all the Dachshund questions end up here. When I first came here there fewer dog questions here and elsewhere. I answer many automotive questions. About 3/4 of them were about Hondas. Now maybe I feel they aren't near as good as many think, but they can't be as bad as they seemed.

I may disagree with you on many points of dog care, but iti s easy to see that you really do love dogs.
