Hello all,
I know there are a lot of threads addressing irregular periods, but I have a few more questions.

For the last 4 years or so, I've only been getting my period about every other month. It lasts around 4 days, no big deal for me. 2 years ago I did have an exam & was told I was healthy in that area.

Well, this time, I haven't had a period since May. I finally had something at the start of this month, that seemed like regular period, but only lasted 2 days. Then nothing. Then a few days later... spotting... then I've got the normal flow again. So I've been bleeding pretty much since the 9th of this month, off & on.

Now, I have been very stressed the last few months, & have been over-exercising myself. I know those can be factors. I also have had 2 UTI's, so I'm wondering if that could be a factor at all?

I also have heard of premenopause (or maybe it's called perimenopause... ) but I think that's supposed to start in early 30's or so, & I'm only 24. Could it be that?

Any advice, I appreciate, thank you! :)

Hi CGI.

Urinary tract infections have no impact on your menstrual cycles.

Is it possible that along with over-exercising that you might not be eating enough? A lot of women who want to get pregnant but can't find that when they eat low-fat milk products their body reads it as a time where the woman cannot nourish herself or the child - and when they switched to normal milk products and a few more other fats, they suddenly got pregnant. The body does regulate itself oftentimes, with or without our intervention.

There have been many cases where the body reverts back to a type of adolescence when it is not given the nourishment it needs to develop further, thereby setting the reproduction organs off sync.

If your doctor gave you a 'clean bill of health' in that aspect, I cannot think of any other factor here except for an emotional one. See if you could reduce the current stress level somehow, and find someone who you can talk to.

Good luck dear.

It sounds as if you are putting yourself into a state of amenorrhea. I have to believe that you are also seriously restricting your calorie intact on top of over exercising. With the amount of stress that you are stating you have its not uncommon for someone to turn to an eating disorder in order to control their surroundings. If this is the case you do not need an OB/GYN you need a psychologist to deal with your eating disorder.

That is possible. I do eat very poorly sometimes. I'll try to better that, & hopefully that is all that's wrong. Thanks very much for the reply. :)
