I don't know anything about rugbys origins, but I suspect maybe england or something... werent the balls originally made from pigskins? I think england or america probably had something to do with it maybe, but I don't know.
Try Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org)
And search for rugby

Ask me where golf came from :)

I suspect you are talking about Rugby Union and not Rugby League. There is a difference.

Rugby union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_Union#History)

Rugby league - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_League#History)

Hope this helps.

Rugby was invented by a young boy called William Webb Ellis. William Webb Ellis invented rugby in a small town called rugby in England. This was invented as William Webb Ellis was at Rugby School (it is not a school where they teach rugby) and he was playing football with a pig skin ball. He decided to pick up the ball and run with it along the park bashing people out of the way to start the invention of rugby. However this is supposadely a legend. I hope I have answered any questions that people may have about William Webb Ellis and the invention of a fantastic game known as rugby
