I just bought a older home, the plumbing is all brand new, there is a vent running off the kitchen sink but it doesn't drain properly, it'll drain fast then stop. After a few minutes you'll hear what sounds to be like air finding it's way up the pipe. Then when I pull the plug out it drains fast and stops again. I think it's a venting problem but I am not a expert??

You're correct. It sounds like the sink's air locked. The kitchen vent needs to be checked and cleared. Can you explain more about this vent? Most kitchen vents are hidden insyde the wall. How's yours configured? Tom

My vent runs from inside the wall then comes out horizontally to the side of my pipe after my s-trap, I'll try to get a picture to you. I am guessing the vent runs up to the roof because there is no pipe sticking out from the wall outside. All other drains in the house work fine. I tried one of those compressed air canisters you buy at the store to unclog drains but no luck.

What advice can you give on fixing a air lock?

Run some drain cleaner through the line before you do anything else. Workmen are great for throwing trash down the lines so before you call roto-rooter, give drain cleaner some time to work. Just sounds like a partial blockage at this time.
