Could you please advise what is required to get a Portuguese ID card. My father has an original Portuguese birth certificate and I would like to get a Portuguese Passport to enable my children to work in the EU. I am currently a citizen of Australia.

You will need to go into the Embassy with your fathers original certificate and the officials will then apply for the necessary ID cards. They might need the original birth certificates of your children to register them with the Embassy so take that along too. Maybe even your birth certificate too. Take as much documentation with as possible.

Once you've received the ID cards then only can you apply for passports.
