I am ready to file for a divorce in a marriage where we have been married 10 years, but sperated for the last 3 years.

State ordered child support is already in place and visitation is already established.

There are no issues with custody.

There is no property to divide in the marriage.

We are living in th same state - state of Iowa.

Please contact me via e-mail about my options and cost in establishing and finalizing this divorce without any or little invlovemnet of a lawyer.

There are services online such as this: 3StepDivorce: Iowa Divorce Forms Service (http://www.3stepdivorce.com/states/iowa.shtml)
That maybe you and your ex would be willing to split the cost for. (However it's pretty cheap - $299)

Or you could go to a paralegal, also MUCH cheaper than a lawyer, explain what you want to do and they will select the forms that you need to file (based on the specifics of your agreement) and fill them out for a fee. You can then take those to the court and fill them out yourself. A paralegal will make sure the proper forms are completed correctly but they do not give legal advice. So, you will still be acting on your own behalf as your own lawyer, pro-se/in pro per. Saves you the huge lawyer fees but gets the paperwork done right.

Another option is to go legal self help at your local court house. They will do almost the same thing but for free. Only problem is that I think most people find they just aren't quite as nice or helpful. They will not give any advice at all and only tell you how to fill out the forms they don't do it for you. You tell them what you want to accomplish and they just kind of tell you which boxes to check and say "write something like this.. here on this line". Then they give you blanks to go fill out and file yourself.

Or try to do your own research on what forms you will need to fill out for an uncontested divorce, obtain them at your local Superior Court and file them yourself.

That is pretty much it short of getting an attorney.

A good way to do an uncontested divorce is to call your city clerks office and they can tell you where to go to pick up a do it yourself book and you will only pay for the book it self and the money to file for the divorce. The book will tell you everything you need to do and you do not need an attorney. It will give you all the legal information you need to file plus it has the paper work in the back of the book
