I have almost the same issue another questioner asked. I have a Harbor Breeze Exeter 56" fan that has absolutely no outside housing controls. I had a guy install a new remote system because the original (when I bought the house) did not work. I still use the old handset which has a reverse button but it combined with the new remote unit does not work. I can't find a manual on-line so I have no clue how to reverse the fan. In the meantime it just blows upwards! Help!

I will answer my own question. Lowes' is the sole distributor for these fans. There is no control on the outside of the fan to reverse it. I got a new controller (communicates with the hand held remote) for the fan. There was a wire on the controller of the same color for every one coming out of the fan PLUS of course home power supply wires and ground. When I wired up this new controller all functions worked INCLUDING REVERSE!! So, if you have this problem, go to Lowe's, have them order you new stuff and a user manual and you are in business as I now am.

Some Harbor Breeze fans with remotes will reverse as follows: (1) Turn the fan on; (2) Press and hold the REV button; (3) While holding the REV button, press the LOW speed button several times slowly. The fan will change speeds with each press of the LOW button, and on one press (the fourth when I did it), will slow to a stop, then reverse.

Absolutely not.

I am not saying it doesn't work for you, I am saying, if that is what you have to do in order to reverse your fan, then something else has malfunctioned.

Actually, to the best of my memory, this is what the instructions with the fan direct.

There is no hardware switch on the fan (for any function). It appears to be totally electronically (not "electrically") controlled.

I did, however, try a second method. On the remote, you can press and hold the "REV" button until the fan reverses. The fan will slowly change speeds, then reverse. But that takes longer than pressing one of the speed buttons while holding REV. The change in speed is so slow one is likely to miss the fact that something is changing.

This is a very frequent question on the 'net. This is the only solution I've found posted.
