I have recently started getting calls regarding a past debt of 10 years. They were bugging me so much and I was not sure if I was required to pay this because I was not 100% clear on when the statue of limitations began. I made a payment to them over the phone of $25.00 for a bill of $1600.00. After I made the payment of course I found out that I do not have to pay this because of the statue of limitations ran out for them. However, the gentlemen that keeps calling states that because I made a payment I have reinforced the statue of limitations. Is this True? Can they collect this debt from me through the court system or he is he just telling me this.

Confused!

This is not true. If the debt was valid, then your obligation to pay NEVER expires. The only thing the statute of limitations does is prevent them from taking you to court over the debt.

This is true, by making a payment, you acknowledged the debt and started the clock again. They can now take you to court to enforce this debt.
