My basement floor has no floor drain. I am concerned that if there is a water event like a hot water heater rupture the basement will flood. What is the best way to install a floor drain for the basement? I have busted up some of the slab because I am adding a bathroom in the basement. Have you heard of a dry well in a basement?

To install a floor drain you cut into the drainage system with a sanitary tee,wye or combination eighth bend and wye and connect the floor drain to that. Install the floor drain a inch or so under the floor line and slope to it. I hope you didn't mean cesspool when you asked about dry wells.
Dry wells collect and store rain water in a subterranean chamber. It's not feasible to tear up most of your basement to install one. They are best installed outside. Cheers, Tom
