Over the Range Microwave died. Cannot get the old one out. Sits on a bracket mounted on the wall behind it. Will not budge. Looking for suggestions.

Our microwave screws into the top of the cabinet above it and sits on a ledge on the wall.
Is there a cabinet over the microwave? The screws might be obscured, but there should be something supporting it from above.

I just hung one over our range... but didn't have that bracket (I didn't buy it new, but to get one it was over $60.00 w/ shipping & handling). I ended up mounting it to the underside of the cabinet above, because I could do that without the bracket.
Looking at the instructions I pulled off the internet... it says, you need two people to avoid injury when lifting the unit up into place... then,"Lift microwave oven hood and hang on support tabs on the bottom of mounting plate brackets. Hold microwave oven hood in place and secure to upper cabinet with the lock pin and washer." Look in the cabinet above the hood... there should be at least 3 holes. Two of them should have screws and washers in them.
Work backward from the installation by unplugging/disconnecting power (turn off circuit first!!) and loosen and remove those two screws and washers... and the lock pin and washer if it is still in there. Then with the help of the 2nd person (your range should be moved out of the hole if possible), lift the microwave up and out. You may need to push pretty hard at the back bottom of the unit to get it to release. Go get yourself a new micro and install it the same way!

I did take the screws out. There is no way to lift the back wallside section of the oven--no room there. Am going to try to hit it with a rubber mallet on a 1x4 on the underside. I'll let you know tomorrow. There is no pin/lock.

Make sure you are not doing this by yourself. Those mics are heavy!
