My bank account has been garnished. Can they also garnish an income tax refund due me? My taxes are due soon, and I'm not sure whether I should file for another extension, or what I can do to prevent the refund being garnished.
Thanks,
Lil

Not to my knowledge, unless you put that check in the bank!! Or if your debt is federal student loan debt, or previous taxes...

Yes, your federal income taxes can be garnished, There ar places where they can't garnish your pay, they can still get the tax refund.
** but what refund are you due this time of year??
Normally they will not ( expect child support enforcement to get it)

My understanding is that only the IRS or Student Loans can go after your tax refund. However of course if you deposit it in the bank that's another story. As long as it's mailed to you, it should be OK. At least that is my understanding.
