View Full Version : What's the best part about being a member at AMHD?

Even though there are times when we don't hear back from posters, I believe we've helped them and that's why they don't show up again.
It's like I told a boss, years ago: Doing a good job here is like wetting your pants in a dark suit... you get that nice warm feeling but nobody notices.

Great thread you have started,
Aye aye captain!!
:D Yes the warm feeling is what we work for...
But I do believe a bit of constructive criticism from the senior members will help me more...

Well, you are seldom at a loss for something to do. Seriously, even though it is very frustrating at times, I know sharing what I know with their owners has made life better for many dogs. Earlier I helped in several other areas. As we added people that knew more than me in those areas, I have done less and less. I certainly have more to do than get in the way of those that know more than me in those areas.

Help you more than what? I've watched some of your posts, and I think you're doing fine. We can frequently be our own worst critics.

Well, the members here make it worth it more than anything else.
But really... I like helping people. If I could help ONE person, it makes it worth the frustrations.
Helping others is its own reward.

We are blessed with a great variety of brilliant minds.
And I truly believe we're taking time from our own lives to help others. I've never been to any other help site and, frankly, I don't think I ever will.

I know this is pretty much a repeat, but I agree about the people here. There are some wonderful people here and I feel priviledged to know them (well, know them online of course :p)
It also makes me feel go to know that I possibly helped someone. :)

I feel thankful to have met some of the members here and honored to be accepted as their friend...
The feeling I get from helping one person out does anything in the world for me. Bringing people together or just helping them with a small problem is a sure good feeling.
Not to mention all the fun we have chatting about.
Oh I love this place!
Thank you, ALL of you!

I like the fact that this site and the wonderful friends I have made here helped me so much in a time when no one seemed able to help. And now I like to think that I'm putting back in what I took from the site by helping people where I can.
But if the people here weren't so good I wouldn't bother.

Arguments are good in a way, those like me who read threads find it interesting to see both sides of a story...
Sometimes a good argument where each one is giving well informed answers are the best threads!! :D

It is enjoyable to see the diversity of opinions showing up here.
No matter the thread, we've got life experiences from around the world. And everybody has an opportunity to comment. I think it's more open at the Desk than if we were all milling around the same room having cocktails or something.
But I'd like for Scott and the Admin's to arrange a cookout for us! :D We could check out Rick's new patio! :p

That was a joke. But the site itself is not non-profit at least not intentionally. The owners of the site do want to make a profit. Whether they do or not I don't know.
However, all help provided on the site is on a volunteer basis. Answering questions publicly is done without any rumenration. However there are two fetures offered by the site. If an asker is pleased with the help they have received, there is an option to "tip" the responder by transferring an amount of the asker's choosing to the answerer's Paypal account. Some answerers are willing to take the help to the next level with personal, real time, one on one help on a fee basis. I've had a couple of people request IM and phone help for specific issues.

Also, most experts also get a Google adsense ad on any replies they make to a forum that they are expert in (If they have set it up), any profit from those goes directly to the expert.
In over 6 months I have made nearly $5 from these ads. Score!

When I first found this site, I had a computer problem.. then I just browsed around and read some threads and automatically felt that this was a group I wanted to join.
From all around the world, old, young, different cultures and experiences.. Where else can you find such a wonderful place?
I wouldn't give it up for anything. The people I met here cannot be replaced in my heart or mind.
This is my "home away from home" and I'm glad that we can help as much as we do.
It makes me proud to be a part.

I think this is a great place to be ourselves. I can express all of my feelings and say whatever is on my mind. I have met many insightful and beautiful people, who I have connected with and learned from. I also feel very good when I am able to give someone advice and it actually helps them. I like hearing back from people. I feel very accepted and loved on here and when I started my first thread, I was struggling so much and feeling so badly. I still struggle and have days where I feel dreadful, but the people here always lift me up. Thanks to all of you.

Helping someone really sets off a feel-good chain reaction. See the effects of the simple act of helping, and you'll realize that you really do make a difference in the world.
I see how differently each of us thinks over the same thing. We learn to accept each other and be humble.
Learning is the most enjoyable thing in our life!:)

I agree 100%. It feels so good to be able to help someone. It is hard to pin down one 'best part' of being a member here.
One of these is being able to share with others and get their opinions.
Speaking of sharing - I passed the test!
I was looking for a good site on teen sexuality and teen pregnancy and found this little challenge. I took the Sex-Fu Challenge and passed it.
Try it, you might like it. I'm in the fun mood, keeping myself busy so that I don't worry about my surgery tomorrow, and the weeks in a cast to come.
Let me know what you think abou this site and take the test.

Helping others is why most of us do this. I have been answering questions on sites like this one for over 10 years now. I have worked the pay sites as mentioned above but I enjoy the kick back free sites like this one the best. I have herd from a number of you some like what I say and some don't hehehe. That's OK we can't all agree and that's what makes this type of site work so good. The asker gets all types of answers and its up to them to take out of them all what helps.

The best thing about AMHD is the great advice I had gotten here when my ex fiancé broke up with me 6 months ago, again. Without that great advice I think I would still be sitting and staring at the wall and very hurt. I Am so much better the when I joined 5 months ago. I have taken the advise here and tried to apply through my hurtful situation. Now I get the satisfaction and the honor to apply what I have gone through and the knowledge I have gotten from my fellow posters who have helped me.

The best thing that happened to me here was a girl who was having stomach pains. She said she could not be pregnant. After being here with her for an hour, I got her to log off and go to the hospital as she was clearly in labor (she was 17).
Although she could NOT be pregnant, I got a picture of a beautiful mother and baby daughter via e-mail the next week.

The free love and support from here is such a blessing.
Unfortunately, what's not free are medical bills, rent, telephone and internet fees and groceries.
This is what I am currently having a lot of trouble with due to my piled up bills and welfare check of only 600 Euro. I have applied for medical retirement but that will take six months and I don't know if I will live that long. I have been told that by the 25th I will probably not have net access or telephone anymore, so I will not be able to spend much time with my AMHD family in the future.
My daughter helps me with groceries and lets me spend time with my grandson. My two brothers have problems of their own in Afghanistan and Las Vegas, so I cannot expect much help there. My BF rejected me due to my recent diagnosis so I can no longer use his computer.
I know that there are people in this world a lot worse off than myself, but this is happening to me and it makes me very angry and very hurt. So much so, that I don't want to prolong this degrading and demeaning condition. I used to be proud of who I am and happy to be alive, but these past two years have made me see things differently. There is no dignity to this and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope that it does not take long for it all to end. I've already been told that surgery is too late and that it might have spread through nerves and into my head, so chemo is out for me too.
I'm not giving up and intend to raise some hell while still around and will surely not let anyone push me around anymore or put me in the corner of a hospital room for my relatives to pay for.
I love you all and wish you all the best. And I will stay online as long as possible.
