I know it is horrible. He was so upset this morning when he couldnt come. broke my heart. I think they just dont want the technicians to be distracted or something...I dunno.
I almost bought a doppler, but thought I would become addicted to it..LOL...why are we so crazy when pregnant?
Ebay is all ill say to you, its just nice to have when you know you can't see midwife and your feeling really rough I have to admit though I've only picked mine up twice so far for the fact that its laying across me with its back to mine so trying to pick up the heart rate is a nightmare lol

I can also make "big" blankets for all of those ladies out there if they want. They are warm and cozy, and It gives me something to do.

Aug 15, 2007, 12:00 PM
Do you crochet them, Al? Or piece them?
alkalineangel
Aug 15, 2007, 12:29 PM
I can knit them, but the ones I prefer are the fleece tab blankets. Not much to them really. But all the kids love them, and I have one for me too :)
curlybenswife
Aug 15, 2007, 12:47 PM
Do you mean that kind of thing Al? Welcome to the NEW Taggies Website (http://www.taggies.com/)
alkalineangel
Aug 15, 2007, 01:00 PM
Similar, but not quite... I don't use different "tags" I use the fleece itself, and tie the tabs together, but same concept, gives the baby something to hold in their fingers, which my son LOVES... and I can't find a single website online that shows what I'm talking about... ill take apic of my son's blanket when I get a chance.
startover22
Aug 15, 2007, 01:04 PM
Synn, good for you calling a temp agencie I mean.
Al, I have a blanket fetish, I buy old quilts and any other type of blanket I can get my hands on cheap... My hubby thinks I am a bit weird for it. I just don't care. Anyone that stays here over night always has something nice to say about how I put them up with the blankies and quilts... I think it all started there
CBW, if you aren't due in October, then when? Is it Feb?
curlybenswife

OOOOOOOO that sounds rather cool Al millie hated her taggy but lovers her fleece blankets witch is just typical as the taggy cost a fourtune lol
Due date is jan 25th
When them said dd she meant dear daughter not due date ;)
alkalineangel
Aug 15, 2007, 01:19 PM
Yes, Connor had a taggy too and he hated it... I don't think the taggys were soft enough... there is something about the fleece I think... they are warm and soft like mommy. :)
Hehe, if only we were pregnant that little amount of time... 9months always seems like eternity... and then it just flies by once they are here...
Start - I have a blanket fetish too... well, quilts... my grandmother makes them, and I love having them around. I am hoping she will teach me to hand quilt soon.

You know I've always wanted a big patchwork quilt but there so rare here and when you do find them your looking at hundreds of pounds :(
Millie had lots of blankets she has two favourites one has a dog on and the other a cat they are the softest fur and cotton they have there own bags too hehehehe something else that jellycat no longer make so I refuse to let her out with them because id never be able to replace them.

Oh, it was math all right. Heparin Protocol, D over H times Q = X, Millileters per hour and drops per minute.
Even though most of the new fangled machinery in a hospital does all of the calculations for us, we have to know them to pass our boards AND if the power goes out in times of emergency.
Many schools do not even teach math for nurses, I am one of the lucky ones who must pass a test every semester to continue on in school.

Good morning, coffee in hand and feeling less stressed! All done. Em, that is so exciting! I hope you sale lot's of homes, especially really expensive ones! LOL

Al, I would like to return to Saturday only if the I had nothing to do, and I could relax.
Oh, garage sale went wonderful, sold lot's and we are happy it is out, good will with the rest! Hugs, Start

Glad you got rid of it all Start. Did you make some good money?
Nope, won't be around as much. School for at least the first two weeks will be 5 days a week. After that 2 days in class and one day in the hospital. Will have Thursdays through Sunday off, but that will be dedicated to studying and getting paperwork done.
12 hours in the hospital = 16 hours of homework.

I have a hunny do list for Thomas that includes cleaning out the crap in the storage room in the basement, namely the clothes neither of us have worn in over a year... Im hoping to have some sort of yardsale or cheapcycle sale or something.. lol. He is to clean that out, help me get the clothes from in our rooms downstairs so I can go through them, decide which no longer fit and wash them all for winter storage... then I hope to start switching out soon... it will start getting cold here in another month. Also I need him to go through the toys, as we have far too many for just one child, and he is getting a ton more in 2 weeks time for his birthday... lol.. he asked me if I was nesting, and I shot him a look so evil he will think twice next before confronting me... lol.

Start - My sister's oldest has ADD, with him it is that he can not keep attention on one object for longer than 10 minutes tops, this includes books, games, movies, conversations... unless medicated... he's going on 12.
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 10:43 AM
Nice about the call from the paper, Al!
Thanks for the info. I am hoping no med's will be needed. I would like to do everything else before we go there, it is a problem that my hubby doesn't really want to recognize, it is hard to do anything about it, so I am taking steps on my own. He is a good boy, a smart boy, just doesn't really want to sit long enough to listen, even when it is fun. He wants to do it by himself and if he fails he will ask for help, a little less eye contact and some staring off into the distance are just some of the things I have been looking into!
J_9
Aug 20, 2007, 10:45 AM
If you are looking at diet you need to start with sugars. ALL SUGARS, including any Red Dyes.
Start, when he stares off or gets distracted, just a light touch on the shoulder can help re-group them sometimes.
alkalineangel
Aug 20, 2007, 10:49 AM
Of course, no one wants their child on medicine... there are many, many other options out there. They tried everything on her son though. Her middle son they were treating for ADD with no luck, partially because he had some symptoms to his brother, but then once that was not working, they dug deeper, and found that he actually had an autism spectrum disorder called Asperger's. He is much happier with proper OT and fish oil rather than the medications they tried originally... good luck!
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 10:52 AM
Yes, sugars and red dyes, I have found that out. What do you think about the other kids, is it fair to give them the same diet or not... they are used to a free diet. They eat very well, but pop tarts and cookies are definitely there.
A tap on the shoulder doesn't do it for the staring, I have clapped my hands even and he is still there. The kicker is, he learns and hears everything we say, sometimes when he does this, I test and say something, when he snaps out of it he knows what went on around him. He is the one that likes to go get the frogs in the early marning and does things onhis own a lot... he is the most kind loving soul I have ever met, but he does not take athourity at all. If I say no, he keeps going. I am working on all of this. I know J, consistancy is key... I am doing my best to follow through!

alkalineangel
Aug 20, 2007, 11:08 AM
Start, have you considered seizure disorder?
I thought this too, but I don't know that he would retain the information that was happening around him during a seizure...
Start, does he have problems with loud noises or public places... meaning do you notice it happen if there are more people around than usual or at a movie theater...
J_9
Aug 20, 2007, 11:10 AM
Many children are well aware of the goings on around them with certain seizure disorders.
Start, not to scare you, but seizure disorders are like different forms of epilepsy. You said a few things in your last post that really stuck out to me. Here, let me go back and find them.
some staring off into the distance
A tap on the shoulder doesn't do it for the staring, I have clapped my hands even and he is still there.
when he snaps out of it
These are the few that made me think seizure disorder. It very well could be an autistic disorder also though, they can really imitate each other and make it hard for a proper diagnosis.
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 11:15 AM
I just googled it and I am not really sure. I honestly think the next best thing would to be take him in to the doctor! I know Dustin is scared to find out what is happening. I can tell that he isn't JUST being a REAL boy. Dus thinks that we have lost sight of the fact that kids should be able to be themselves. But he is the kid that you can't let go of his hand cause he will run off and it is hard to keep a grip on his hand, he is unwilling to comply.
J_9
Aug 20, 2007, 11:17 AM
To be honest, and you already know this, it could be a lot of things, including his age. Johnny can be similar at times. But you know only a doctor can give you the right diagnosis, at least you have us to give you some direction in talking to the doctor and asking the right questions.
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 11:21 AM
Yes, ever since he was a baby, I felt this way. Two years ago I was going to go through with the autism tests (on my own) They send out papers and ask you to write many things down. I am going to take him to the doctor and see if I should do it. Also, it may just be a case of diet and being totally stern with him... I am mostly worried about the staring and not paying attention!
alkalineangel
Aug 20, 2007, 11:22 AM
Wow.. I didn't know that. But then, I'm not as familiar with epilepsy as with Autism. I have only know one person with epilepsy, and one person with a daughter that suffers from Grand Mal seizures, but both were more serious cases, I am guessing there are less serious cases as well, similar to different aspects of autism spectrum. I always thought people were not aware of things around them. I learn something new everyday.
Start - It's better to get him to the doctor. He sounds as though he is learning fine and what not, just a little socially inept.. I would not be too worried, it could just be him being himself, but mothers know their children best.. and you obviously see something that is not quite right. Better safe than sorry.. good luck!
J_9
Aug 20, 2007, 11:24 AM
Yes, an epileptic does not have to have a physical seizure such as a grand mal. Just staring and what some call zoning out can be considered a seizure. With some people you can watch their eyes during this zone out period and they will move rapidly either back and forth or up and down, sometimes not move at all.
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 11:27 AM
No movement, and you have to also know that we put him in school last year only to take him out a month and a half later. No biggie, I thought he may change a bit with being 6 in a few days, there has not been much of a change. So I guess I am worried that he will not be able to attend and that is the main issue. If the teacher is having to put the attention on only Jett, then that isn't good for the other kids!
alkalineangel
Aug 20, 2007, 11:33 AM
If he does have some kind of issue, there are many ways such as occupational therapy and many other things, that will help him mainstream into normal school. My nephew goes to school and is in the same grade as others his age, he does well. He has to have a stress reliever there though (chewy tube) but, he is able to sit and get the information he needs... he is one of the smartest in his class right now..
startover22
Aug 20, 2007, 11:35 AM
Thanks, Al, I am thinking very hard right now on what I am able to do for him. I am making the appointment today and hopefully it will be very helpful. Do you guys think his doctor or a specialist?
J_9
Aug 20, 2007, 11:40 AM
You need to start with his doctor, talk to him/her about your concerns, then doc will then make the appropriate appointments with specialists if needed.
alkalineangel
Aug 20, 2007, 11:40 AM
Start with your regular doctor and let him tell you if you need to see a specialist. Make sure you tell him everything... if for some reason he doesn't think there is an issue and you still think there is, if your insurance doesn't require referrals, go and see aspecialist.. but start with your ped. First...

I had it yesterday... it wasn't really an interview, but they gave me ads to design to see my work. I had 2 hours to complete 3, which is extremely difficult. I got 2 finished. But I kept getting interrupted by my daycare calling... Connor had gotten sick... so I was frustrated by the time I left... I don't know why they just can't call my husband... I had to arrange for my mother to pick him up, and then we got home and the storms had knocked out our phone, internet and cable... so I had a cranky husband (no computer), and a sick child... I was stressed to the max after that. I just hope that what I did manage to finish was good enough...

I'm going to buy the biggest, most commercialized plastic Santa for my yard this year. I just made that decision today.
I started on my Christmas list last month.

LMAO.
We have this guy that dresses as Santa (a good friend) he calls every year around Thanksgiving and asks the kids ages, their teachers names, friends, grades and so on. Then he magically appears at my hubby's shop and talks to the kids.
He knows all about them up front. It is really funny to see them light up when he says something like "I heard you got a 75% on that science test, were you too busy playing with Paula to study?"
OMG, it is really hilarious.

Oooh I'm going to get the big blow up ones with the snow falling that my son loves so much, even though I'm not a big fan... simply because it will help him resent me more later in life...

Oh, crap Al, too funny!!
You know I was 13 before I realized there wasn't a Santa.
My parents took movies of my uncle dressed as Santa when I was a year old. He was placing gifts under the tree and they brought me down stairs. I sat on his lap.
Every year I said that there was no Santa they would show me that movie. When I was 13 I finally said, "You know Santa looks like Uncle Ron." They had to give it up then.
Ruined me for life.

This is brilliant! My husbands father looks a lot like Santa, (and a little like Jerry Garcia with white hair) to the kids, and my nephews always are looking at him trying to figure it out. Well a couple years ago he told the youngest that it was a whole heck of a lot warmer here than where he was from, and my nephew asked if he was from the North Pole... since then, it has stuck... You should see them straighten up when he is around... lol... we call him on the phone when my son needs a reminder... heck if I'm already lying to my kids, I might as well milk them for good behavior as well... lol

Years ago my family and I were traveling back from Thanksgiving from my sister who was about 6 hours away.
We stopped at Wendy's for lunch. My hubby and I had our backs to the order counter and we were eating and chatting. Suddenly my son's eyes bulge out of his head. I turned around to see what he was looking at. An elderly gentleman with white hair and full beard was in line. He was wearing red cords and a coordinating flannel shirt. My husband and I surmised it must be Santa and he was in town checking out the kids. We all enjoyed thinking and talking about that and then headed out to our car.
In the parking lot was a shiny new red Cadillac with personalized Florida plates that read - you guessed it - Santa. Son was convinced. He was also well behaved the rest of the trip and grinned to himself the whole time.
My son is MR/DD and still isn't completely sure what Santa is. I just keep telling him he is a state of mind, not a person. Difficult for him to grasp with all the guys in red around.

Hey, I think I met that man in Florida once!! He even changed his name if it is the same man, and his driver's license reflects that.
When I was little we had a new choir director at church, my sister was about 5, he had a long beard and was dressed in robes. My sister saw him and yelled "hey Mom look, there's Jesus"

Lol... we don't really talk a lot about Jesus in our house, at least not since my son was born, and Im no longer a member of my old catholic church with my sisters, so Connor doesn't know what Jesus looks like yet... all he knows is"big butter Jesus" which he chooses to sing in church during my nephews 1st communion...
