Let's all hear it for the HAWKS... I can tell you a story when we went to Seattle to watch them play against the Rams a few years ago. I could have turned myself into an instant millionaire at the bar when I met Corin Robinson and got his signature, I was so close I should have licked those diamond earings right off his ear... Next day was game day and I called his name the whole time we were as one... he looked at me and so on and on and on... too bad he got into some bad stuff and isn't there anymore.

startover22
Aug 12, 2007, 01:58 PM
Yes, I used to sell and buy on eBay, that was good money. No time for that now... Garage sales, and craigslist are my faves...
No shipping and cheap prices for great things.
Ikea, when I here that word I think of Night at the Roxbury, the movie... LOL
The nearest one is in Wahington... been only once and really enjoyed it. Off to find some boxes... Hugs, Start

Popping in to say hello. Busy weekend for me... babysitting the boys yesterday... nothing better than 4 rowdy boys at the pool... LOL. Today we took Connor out to see what he wanted for his birthday. That was fun.

I am sooo not looking forward to going back to work. My voss informed us Friday afternoon that she put in her two weeks a week before, so she will be leaving... I know I am pushing for this new job and all, but I don't know if I will get it yet, and the idea of getting a new boss is not appetizing to me. :(

Synn, how was the weekend?

Muwahhh Cappy dear.

Rae and I were looking at the haircut pic last night when John saw it. I died!! He said "That's cute, you should get that cut!!"

Synnen

It was all right. Kind of sad, but I think that that will be the tone of all my family gatherings nowadays. My sister and I have given up on trying to get along--and even my dad, who is normally oblivious, noticed it.

Ah well, I guess I just don't do much with them anymore.

Synn, I am so sorry you have to go through this. Maybe in time, a long time, things will change. My family was the same until recently.

CBW, I LOVE Elmo!!

Nope not drinking or sun... maybe just realized that short hair can be cute, or he sniffed too many chemicals at work.

Morning ladies...
Al, change is always weird, you never know, the new boss may be wonderful...
J, how did hubby like that game last night... maybe you should just get the SeaHawk emblem shave in the side of your head... J/K. I think the picture of the haircut was very cute.
CBW, talking about food makes me hungry..
Synn, Sorry about you and your sister. Really is too bad.
Have a bright and beautiful day...

And thanks... I don't think I'd make it through this family crap without my "sisters" here!

J_9
Aug 13, 2007, 06:59 AM
Thanks Synn, getting it done on Wednesday, I'll be sure to take a pic.

Yeah, I know about having the "sisters." I really needed my AMHD sisters when Dad was ill and... well really long story. But it is amazing how we can help each other through a keyboard and a monitor.

startover22
Aug 13, 2007, 07:00 AM
Yeah, sure does help to be able to talk about it.

Synnen
Aug 13, 2007, 07:13 AM
What really helps is that the "family" here doesn't judge, doesn't expect anything of you, and doesn't have this crazy idea that you're horrible if you're not like them!

I came to the realization that the biggest reason I don't really "fit in" is that I'm so different from my family, different lifestyle, different ideas, everything!

shatteredsoul
Aug 13, 2007, 07:16 AM
Hey there Syn, hope its OK that I jump in here. I am sorry about the situation with your sister, I can relate, because I haven't got along with my sister since I was like 6. We just always seem to have some sort of conflict every time we get together, or for that matter, whenever we talk. It makes it difficult.and I am sorry that you struggle with that. We don't see eye to eye on anything! It hurts to not get along with family, even when we really want to and it just doesn't work. Just wanted to say that. Thank God for friends, because without them life would be unbearable!!

Synnen
Aug 13, 2007, 07:26 AM
Of course I don't mind you jumping in--why would I be unhappy with someone offering comfort?

Yeah--it's the same with my sister and I. We have never really been friends, and never really seen eye-to-eye about anything. I hate the way she raises her kids, and try to bite my tongue on it, but it sucks to watch her scream at them. She and I also have very different ideas on everything--and the fact that she has 5 kids and I have none keeps that gap of understanding between us HUGE.

I'm sorry that you have to go through it too... although from listening to people here, it seems to be more common than I thought it was!

shatteredsoul
Aug 13, 2007, 07:33 AM
Yeah, I have a feeling my sister would say the same thing. We have different ideas on everything and she has an opinion about EVERYTHING I do. An opinion I can handle, it's the judgmental stuff that gets on my nerves. Everything is a criticism or an attack. Well, thanks for listening to me, I didn't mean to change the subject.
So, the family here that doesn't judge is really life saving isn't it?? I know it has saved me a few times!
I am a Comfort? I am glad you see it that way!!

Hello all. Called in today, connor has a fever. So I'm here. :)

Synnen - sorry it is so rough on you, I know how it feels to be the odd one out in your family... I do everything backwards... kid, marriage, then graduation... lol... and the catholics they are can't take it. :)

J- I think the hairdo will look marvelous!

CBW - hope you are doing well.

Everyone else - Hope all is well!

shatteredsoul
Aug 13, 2007, 07:38 AM
I hear that AL!! I come from a long line of conservative Catholics, so me getting married when my youngest was three months, was quite an adjustment for everyone. A$$ backwards, is how I do everything, so maybe we should start a club for that!! LOL
Hope Connor feels better soon.

startover22
Aug 13, 2007, 07:39 AM
Oh, poor Connor, movies and gatorade today?
The boys are going to show up today. Kids had a busy swimming weekend, they went to bed at 7 and fell asleep at 7:01...

Synnen
Aug 13, 2007, 07:41 AM
What's scary is that my family would be more okay with a baby before marriage than they are with the fact that we don't have kids.

Since pretty much everyone in my family was a teen mom, not a single one of them understands having a life without kids. That's a big part of the arguments--that I feel I should have the same respect for MY lifestyle as they have for THEIR lifestyle, and it just doesn't happen.

I am a second-class citizen in my family because we don't have kids.

shatteredsoul
Aug 13, 2007, 07:44 AM
Well that is just wrong. I don't think that is fair at all. Everyone lives life in their own way, why should you have kids just because they do? So basically no one approves of your life in your family? That is really just sad. I am sorry you have to deal with that kind of scrutiny, it is way more difficult than anything I have to manage with my family.

YOu always have us!!

alkalineangel
Aug 13, 2007, 07:46 AM
:( that is sad, I'm so sorry.

I agree shattered... we should just form our own family of misfits, and bash around all over the place... we will have tons more fun.

startover22
Aug 13, 2007, 07:46 AM
Synn, that is ridiculous. The fact that you still get to make all of your own choices is hard for someone to undersatand when they have to make shoices about what the WHOLE family wants to do. Dinner, movie, clothes, daily activities. I bet your mother would love to have some alone time with JUST you. I like you the way you are and hope they come to realize what they are missing with the judgements. Hugs to you... Start

THE MISFITS, I LOVE IT!! GOod idea AL!!

J_9
Aug 13, 2007, 07:50 AM
LOL, I am the second class citizen in my family and I did everything the Catholic way. Got married in a catholic church, waited to have children until after I was married. My sister did everything the opposite. But for some reason I am the black sheep. Well, until I am needed, then I am the best thing in the world. Other than that, I don't really feel like part of my family at all.

Good thing I have such great in-laws.

startover22
Aug 13, 2007, 07:56 AM
Latley (past few years) I have disconnected myself from the people that bring me down. My dad doesn't like it but I tell him that there is no good in being around these people, there is just no good to come out of it.

shatteredsoul
Aug 13, 2007, 07:59 AM
How do you do it Start? I think that is something I am still learning. How do you disconnect? Why do we care so much what they think anyway?
J-9, even when you do it right, it seems there is always someone there to judge. I am sorry that you too struggle with family in that way. Although when they need you, they are sure of who to call to make it right! Families are strange aren't they?

startover22
Aug 13, 2007, 08:08 AM
We care because it is there right in our veins and the thought of family is overwhelming sometimes. From the highest to the lowest family member they all have played a part in our lives. So when you find someone who has no GOOD to offer, you leave the situation. YOu leave it alone instead of try to explain why you are right and they are wrong...

Aug 13, 2007, 08:09 AM
Although when they need you, they are sure of who to call to make it right!! Families are strange aren't they?

This is actually the funny part. They called a couple of years ago about Dad's health. Wanting to know something or asking for advice. When I would tell them what they needed to know, or give my advice, I was wrong. Always just wrong. So, I quit calling, would not answer the phone, etc, it was easy cause we lived so far apart. I did not need the aggravation of them asking me, then putting me down. Not that I didn't love my parents, but I didn't need the drama and the insults.

Well, 6 months of no contact, I wouldn't even answer e-mails, I got an e-mail saying how right I was those long months ago. They wished they had listened to me in the first place. Now there was nothing that could have saved my Dad even back then as his health was beginning to spiral downward, but had they listened then he would have had a more productive last few years.

It is a shame that sometimes we have to step away from our families, for a short time, sometimes even longer, to see what is lacking in family dynamics. My sister and I still don't get along, my brother and I are 2 different people. But my mother has a new respect for me. It is sad that his death is what gave my mother a new respect for me, but sometimes it takes pain to find joy.

startover22

shatteredsoul

Seems like everyone has a family that is disappointing in some way. I guess they can never always give you all of what you need and that is what friends are for.
J-9, it is too bad they took so long to hear you, it could have been a different road for all of you. That really is a shame. I am glad to hear that things are better with your mom.
I guess at the end of the day, we just have to forgive them for not being who we need them to be, and try to focus on the people who are there for us.
It is good to have In Laws that are kind and helpful, CBW, it is a shame that you don't feel comfortable with your own family. I have a feeling we all kind of feel that way, in some form or another.

Aug 13, 2007, 11:15 AM
We used to do that too, alkaline.

I had so many Aunts and Uncles growing up, because if they were close friends to my parents or grandparents they became honorary family. Also, if I had cousins that were grown, my parents expected us kids to call them by Aunt or Uncle because to call them by their first name was considered impertinent.

My, how times have changed.

curlybenswife

Nice one curlyben

It is very common in the Asian region to find tons of uncles and aunties...
Sometimes it is good for the kids as they seem to be part of an extended family

Sometimes bad when you think of all the perverts who we maybe unknowingly making our children call uncles/aunties...

J9... you should read infertility first, and tell me what I'm doing wrong :D

J_9
Aug 14, 2007, 11:34 AM
Already read it Synn. It's something we'll have to talk on the phone about. There is A LOT about it. Apparently right now you have what is termed secondary infertility.

Did you know that we have been preaching that sperm lives inside the vagina for up to 7 days? Not so, only 48 - 72 hours.

We only have a 25% chance of getting pregnant each month. Once ACTUAL ovulation occurs you only have a true window of opportunity of up to 2 hours to be able to conceive!!

It's amazing ANY of us EVER get pregnant.

The term secondary infertility actually means that you have been pregnant once, but are having trouble the second time around. NOT that you are infertile at all, just having a hard time getting pregnant.

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you dear.

Here you go J - All typed out...

-- Idiots in the office are just as hazardous to your health as cigarettes, caffeine or greasy food, an eye-opening new study reveals. In fact, those dopes can kill you!

Stress is one of the top causes of heart attacks -- and working with stupid people on a daily basis is one of the deadliest forms of stress, according to researchers at Sweden's Lindbergh University Medical Center.

The author of the study, Dr. Dagmar Andersson, says her team studied 500 heart attack patients, and were puzzled to find 62 percent had relatively few of the physical risk factors commonly blamed for heart attacks.

"Then we questioned them about lifestyle habits, and almost all of these low-risk patients told us they worked with people so stupid they can barely find their way from the parking lot to their office. And their heart attack came less than 12 hours after having a major confrontation with one of these oafs.

"One woman had to be rushed to the hospital after her assistant shredded important company tax documents instead of copying them. A man told us he collapsed right at his desk because the woman at the next cubicle kept asking him for correction fluid -- for her computer monitor.

"You can cut back on smoking or improve your diet," Dr. Andersson says, "but most people have very poor coping skills when it comes to stupidity -- they feel there's nothing they can do about it, so they just internalize their frustration until they finally explode."

Stupid co-workers can also double or triple someone's work load, she explains. "Many of our subjects feel sorry for the drooling idiots they work with, so they try to cover for them by fixing their mistakes. One poor woman spent a week rebuilding client records because a clerk put them all in the 'recycle bin' of her computer and then emptied it -- she thought it meant the records would be recycled and used again."

Well our date was great. Stardust is a good movie, for those who like the fantasy movies. Not quite on par with princess bride, def. not as quotable, but definitely very good. For the first time in a long time we felt like we didn't waste our money at the theatre...
Well night all, will pop in sometime after the scan tomorrow...

/sigh

I almost got to go out into the field today. No such luck.

I need a new job, desperately. I'm actually looking at the University's job openings from work today.

Funny thing is that I hate the jobs I'm qualified for... and the ones that look fun, I'm missing 1 or 2 things to be qualified for it. That makes me panda sad.

Aww, panda sad? That just makes me sad Synn... take it slow, something is bound to come your way. Isn't that how it always works? Always with no warning or anything. I hope it works out for you... Hugs to you.

I know, I agree you need something you can enjoy going too. How about daycare... Just a thought. Good money and lot's of love to go around.
Is it a hard market where you live? Are there plenty of jobs or are there none? I know here that people are keeping what they have cause no one is hiring.

I'm mostly an admin. I can do just about everything in an office, but I have no Powerpoint experience, and virtually none with Outlook scheduling (we use a different program for scheduling).

I'd love a job where I was just simple data entry, even at a pay cut. I don't want emergencies, or irate people, or overtime, or office politics (yeah... I know... I'm dreaming)

I just want a job where I can go to work, do my job, and go home. I have tons of experience in customer service and on the phone, I've been a receptionist, I know a TON of computer programs, including Peoplesoft and Quickbooks and ACT, besides the basic Microsoft ones most people know.

I'd rather be a little cog in a big machine than a big cog in a little machine.

And I want benefits!

Start... no way a daycare would work for me. They don't pay enough to put up with other peoples' rugrats all day! I like kids, but not THAT much.

Given the choice, I'd rather work with teens or the elderly, but NOT the medical side of anything--if someone throws up, I throw up with them, and I get queasy with other bodily fluids.

I think I'm just too picky.

EDIT: Alka---what a beautiful little boy! I'm so happy all is well!

Is anyone hiring in your parts/ Or is it like here where when someone finds something they keep it...

He was amazed at how well technology has come along in 4 years... This is just a basic 2d u/s and we could see everything right down to the fingers in detail... it was all mush with Connor. We got a video tape with Connor and this one has the DVD, and they did it in color to see the blood flow through the heart and what not... very cool. He is very excited to have another boy to romp with. I told him our next dog will be female.. im surrounded by testosterone.. lol...

There are jobs here... but I can't be without income at all. So... I have to be able to keep working here and still look, which is harder to do than I imagined. Every other time I switched jobs the last several years, it was because we moved, and I had to get a new job.

I am thinking of contacting a temp agency and seeing what they have at this point.

I used to work at the front desk of a temp agency... wow that was stressful..
They do good things and in some cases, they start with part timers and then with a reputation, they give full time and permanent positions. I hope you do go to one, there would be nothing better than a HAPPY SYNNEN!
Al, too cool.

Awww, Al the scan is gorgeous!! Congrats!!

Synn, in Michigan I worked through OfficeTeam, got a wonderful job through them. You may want to consider it. I worked temporary for 3 months (due to the contract with the law firm (I had NO legal experience at the time)) and got hired on full time after the trial period.

My sister worked for OfficeTeam for several years doing different temp jobs and she loved it because it was always a new environment.

Got my hair done today. Big J actually loves it!! I'm shocked since he is a long hair man and this is the shortest I have ever gone, well except during my chemo.

Pictures!! We want pictures!

I've had good luck with temp agencies in the past. This last time, though, was AWFUL.

I needed work, and gave them dates and times and all that jazz, and I doing this long distance... and they just dropped the ball. They had work for me that got cancelled, so I made plans, and then they called me back 4 hours later and wanted me to do something else, and were peeved that I made plans! I was moving across the country! I had to find an apartment, get it set up, I had a flight the following week, and they weren't willing to work with that--I've never had such a bad experience with a temp agency in my life!

startover22
Aug 15, 2007, 09:39 AM
I hope the next experience will be a good one, it just might be the step you need to take to break away from this one!
J, pictures would be a very good idea... don't you feel so fresh. I loved short hair... but every time I cut it short, I just let it grow out again and never returned for my 6 or 8 week cuts... LOL

CBW - they don't allow anyone under 12 in the scan room... not even siblings... so he will just have to watch on the TV at home... I was a little upset at that. But they do allow me to bring him in to listen to the doppler.

Mmm - pizza.

J, EM, Start, and everyone else, thanks for the comments!

I wish I could pull off blonde like you, if I ever went that light, id look so washed out. Thomas wanted to see me in plantinum blonde at one time, but I think he prefers the dark now. I stay pretty true to my dark brown with red lights.

I know it is horrible. He was so upset this morning when he couldn't come. Broke my heart. I think they just don't want the technicians to be distracted or something... I don't know.

I almost bought a doppler, but thought I would become addicted to it.. LOL... why are we so crazy when pregnant?
