a/c is not working. When I turn the a/c on, the compressor will make a humming sound and then periodically it will make a sounds like it wants to kick on but it won't. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the capacitor, if it looks like it has bulged, or deformed, it will need to be replaced.

Thanks for reply coppersmith. The capacitor looks all right, not deformed or bulged.

Sometimes the capacitor is bad without ballooning the top, could be the compressor is hard starting , if this is the case I would install a hard start kit. Check contacts in contactor for being burnt. Good luck. Mike
