Since you guys have been so helpful I figured I'd ask your opinion on this. My friend and I both have 00 Grand Ams. I had my fuel pump replaced about 4 months ago and did the filter and all new plugs and wires and so forth. My friend redid his fuel pump about a year ago. Now we both have noticed on really hot days it takes more for these cars to start. Tonight when I was leaving for work I didn't think it was going to start. It cranks but it just takes more for it to actually start the motor. Any ideas? Thanks!

. Dirty air filter.
. Corroded battery connections, especially ground. Clean and apply dielectric grease.
. Defective Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor.
. Check for codes. There may be a problem with the MAP-Barro Sensor.
. Check vacuum lines.
. Add Shell Regane or other fuel injector cleaner every 6 months.
. Only use ACDelco spark plugs in GM products.
. Check battery. Add distilled water, if low, and place on a charger. Many batteries go dry and fail, due to summer heat. "Maintenance Free" batteries often fail with little or no notice. I only buy batteries where I can check the fluid levels.

See if starting your car this way helps. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait several seconds. During this period, you should hear the fuel pump in the gas tank run. When it stops running, turn the key to START. This is the proper way to start most modern-day cars. It fully pressurizes the fuel rail, before you try to start the car. It will start faster and be easier on the battery and starter motor.
