I have a 12 year old min pin. He suddenly will no longer eat... His favorite treat is cheese(although I rarely give it to him)... He wouldn't eat it... He got a little excited, tried to eat it, then couldn't take it... I managed to get him to eat it by breaking it up into tiny tiny pieces and feeding it to him... His throat is not blocked and he's lethargic... Help...

Maybe it is his teeth. You should probably take him to the vet.

I hope so... It just occurred to me that he's not been going potty... I took him outside and he just lays there... This is probably a stupid question, but could he be depressed? We got a new puppy 2 weeks ago... This just started yesterday... Do you think I should take him to the vet now, or wait a day or two...

monessa, if you have to go out of your way like that to get your dog to eat, it is definitely time for a visit to the vet. Bushg could be right that he may have some dental problems, or it could be any number of things. At 12 years old and experiencing this problem, this isn't a time for guessing, it is a time for a thorough check up.

If my dogs was not going to the potty I would not wait I would take them ASAP.

That's it, I'm taking him... I'll never forgive myself if it's something serious and I didn't help him in time... Thank you... I'll let you know...

I posted my response at the same time you posted your second one. As bush states, if she isn't pooping, something is very wrong. Yes, please let us know the outcome. There are times we are left wondering what happened.

Very good. The essence of my sticky on the subject, is that the dog is either sick or over fed, https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/information-articles-our-dogs-expert-labman-53153.html#post254171
A sudden change in eating plus other problems strongly suggests a vet visit.

Turns out he's got congenetive heart failure... I know he had the beginning of it about 8 months ago, but I guess his heart's doubled in size... They put him on some meds and he's going to see a cardiologist in a couple weeks... I guess he was supposed to be on meds a couple months back but that vet didn't tell me anything... Hopefully we can keep him okay for a few more years...

I am so sorry to hear this news monessa. It is so hard when our babies grow old and their health begins to deteriorate. I am glad that you got him to the vet quickly today. I hope the meds help the situation and that you will be able to give him another few years of a life with quality that is free of pain. Let us know how he does with the cardiologist.

MY SKIBO IS EATING AGAIN!! They gave us some meds, and he's slowly responding... He's still moving slower than a snail, and he's a bit moody, but he's getting better... Yay!! Thanks for the posts, I'm very glad that I didn't wait to take him in...
