My old thermostat is a Carrier and says "Heat Pump System Control" it does not have a model # and is probably 20 years old. I have a new thermostat which is a LUX TX9000.

I removed the old thermostat and there are eight wires all of which are connected
They are as follows:
w2 - Brown
C - White
G - Green
R - Red
E - Blue
L - Black
O - Orange
Y - Yellow

The new thermostat has the following connections:
Y, O, G, W, B, RH and RC

I am assuming that Y, O, and G are for yellow orange and green , but what do I hook the other wires up to?

The Rh and Rc get jumpered to each other and then to the red if you have just one 24 vdc transformer for your stat.

I would Turn Of power and look inside Air handler, and see if all wires are being used.
And wires that are used, what do they control, May have a diagram on or in unit.

You have the wrong thermostat, you have two stage heat and this new thermostat does not have this capability. Mike
