I went to my stylist, asked for highlights. In short - I ended up with highlights that were a hue of red. I did not like this at all so I went back and had them 'tone it down".

I then had a dark brown put over my hair, it turned my hair a harsh dark "almost black" color. I hated this so...

I went to another place that I got better communication with. They lightened my hair. However, MY HAIR IS NOW a brassy sort of red. My hair is also dry and I understand I need to get a deep conditioner...

This all happened in a time span of 8 days.

My question is...

If I go to the drugstore, and pick out a dark brown shade... color over my hair at home... should I wait at least 2 weeks? I need it darker again in under a week.

Would my hair result in a dry damaged mess, and a very dark color?

I hate RED!

Thank you

Edit:

It's the highlights from before that are creating the 'super brassy red' look when the light hits. My 'base color' is a subtle reddish brown. The combination of the two makes it looks more red than it really is. I know ash/green based colors will tone it down, but is this possible without getting a super dark color? The two places I went to, have told me that only a dark brown can cancel out the red...

Do not try to fix this yourself. Your hair could turn green or the color of mud. Seek out a color specialist. It won't be a simple process nor a cheap one but it will be right.

If you want to neutralize the red tones in your hair, dark ash brown hair color would be your best bet. Since your hair is dry, I recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment at least twice a week before coloring your hair.
