Hello!

Just this weekend, my Rana-cat finally felt comfortable enough to come sniff noses with Trinkett while she was lying down (which seemed to confuse Trink no end!), and Trink was sniffing after Rana as she walked off. Which got me to thinking... cats greet each other by sniffing noses, but will also get information by sniffing other cats' butts. Dogs seem to get most of their information by sniffing butts. So... do dogs sniff noses ever, or is the cat just speaking a foreign language to the dog?

Dogs do a lot of nose sniffing too. Try getting your face right in Trinkett's and see how she reacts. (Watch out, it may be a big slurp.)

Dogs tend to gather the majority of their information through body language alone. Although smells i.e. the butt and anal glands are useful for identifying each other and creating a scent record that dogs refer to later to recognize pack members.
