So a little background. About a week ago I took Plan B (emergency contraception). I am now experienceing some abnormal bleeding. I don't think it's my normal period (considering it is about 3 weeks early) it is to watery to be a period as well. Any information anyone could give me concerning this would be great. I am not sure if this is something I should be worried about or if it a normal happening after taking Plan B.

Bleeding after Plan B is normal. It gives you a rush of extra hormone to start your period, which is what needs to happen to flush the egg out quickly. It could also cause your next period to be irregular. :)

Everything I have read about Plan B says that your period should either come on time or be a week or so early. Not three weeks. The thing that has me really worried it that is is not really anything like my normal period. I am wondering is perhaps anyone has had a similar experience with Plan B at all I can't seem to find any information about unusual bleeding after taking it that doesn't involve ectopic pregnancy (I personally think it would take more than a week for an ectopic to cause any kind of noticeable problem but I am hardly an expert). Once again any input would be helpful

I am not saying its three weeks early. I am saying you're having an extra period, in a way. The only way the body can flush out the egg is to have a period. And that is what the Plan B contraceptive does, it causes you to bleed so the egg can be flushed out.

I'm glad you've done some reading on it :)
Ultimately, call you a doctor or pharmacist about this (whomever you got it from--even planned parenthood). They could probably answer your questions over the phone and/or advise you to come in. Do you ever experience spotting between cycles? Just wondering if this is actual to do with Plan B or something else...

Sorry I can't help further, but I don't have personal experience with it.

I have never experienced spotting between periods before. I have also done some further reading on plan B here on this site and others involving clinical studies to see the effect it has when taken at different stages of the menstraul cycle.

After what I read here there seems to have been 5 or 6 other people who experienced the same sort of bleeding that I am after taking Plan B early in their cycle.

Warning possible TMI to follow:

I finished my period two days before I had sex there was a problem with the condom. So two days later I took Plan B (it was t earliest I could get it). This means I took the pills on day 4 of my cycle. I realize that with the time during my cycle that I had sex pregnancy is not likely but I really wasn't willing to risk it.

According to the studies I read the earlier plan be is taken in the menstrual cycle the more likely it is to cause an early period. Taken later in the cycle your period should come at the normal time or 3-7 days late (that would be scary). So I am less worried about it at this point. The thing that really confused me was that it wasn't like a regular period but I guess if the lining of the uterus only had 11 days rather than the standard 21 to build up things might appear a little differently.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on this subject it really did help to ease my mind.

I took plan B once before. I started my period a few days after taking the pill. I don't remember how early my period came, but it was a lot sooner than it was suppose to come. I had a "period" and I then had another period when my normal period was suppose to come. I know plan B gives you a boost of extra hormones to flush out the egg and it is normal to start a period after taking the pill.
Honestly, I don't know if it was plan B that made me start my period. I had to take it because I was raped and since I was raped I had to take other pills and meds to prevent any STD's and I was an emotional wreck which could have brought my period on sooner.
Just to ease your mind I would call your doctor. I think it is normal to have an early period after taking the pill but it is always best to get a doctor's advice.
