Hi! I was wondering, how long after a missed period, should a Home Pregnancy Test read Positive? The first day of my last period was June 13th and I have taken about 4 Home Pregnancy Tests in the last 2 1/2 weeks. I have been pregnant 3 times before, and found out very soon after conception... in fact, the doctors were so surprised that a home test showed positive because it was such a new pregnancy. This time, I am very late, (and I have never been late by more than 2 or 3 days or missed a period before) and I am only getting Negative results. I have read many articles and talked to many people who say Stress can make your period late, or you could even miss because of that, but I have not been stressed out at all lately, so I was wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this or if I could in fact be pregnant. Any comments would be greatly appritiated! My husband and I have been trying for about a year and a half and had 3 miscarriages... so we were hoping this was it!

Have you read this yet? https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/womens-health/you-having-irregular-period-here-some-causes-what-you-can-do-114035.html

The things listed there can be a factor in a delayed or missed period. However, you could be pregnant and its just not strong enough to show on an HPT. That is not uncommon. The most accurate way of detecting pregnancy is to ask your doctor for a quantative blood test. If that shows negative, you are not pregnant, and may want to discuss with your doctor other reasons this is happening to you. :)

You can be late or completely miss your cycle for many reasons. Stress definitely could play a part in it. Even if you don't feel stressed, it doesn't take much to throw off a cycle. (I am sure that trying for a year and a half, and having three miscarriages couldn't have been easy, perhaps that is where the stress comes from?) It could be from illness, fatigue, change in lifestyle/exercise/diet, etc, it could be from medication, age, or for no reason at all. It could be that you are pregnant, but the levels of hcg are just not high enough to register on an hpt yet. Just because it has always showed up earlier in previous pregnancies, it doesn't mean it will be the same every time. Every pregnancy is different. There have been women that don't have a pregnancy show up on an hpt until they are several months along, or some never do show up on it. You can get a qualatative blood test at your local hospital, it is not much more expensive then a hpt, its more accurate, and you don't have to have your doctor order it. However, it only gives a negative or positive read out, so if your levels aren't high enough to register on that test either, yet you are still very late, the doctor will take the next step. Giving an exam and/or ordering a quantative blood test. In an exam, they can look for more defining signs of pregnancy, such as the blueish/purple tint to the cervix/vaginal area that accompanies pregnancy due to increased blood flow, and an enlarged uterus(but keep in mind,if you have been pregnant before, you uterus never goes completely back to its pre-pregnancy size.)a quantative blood test is the most accurate test to determine pregnancy as it measures the exact amount of hcg in your blood system. If it is high enough to raise question that you might be pregnant, the test will be repeated within a few days to see if the numbers are doubling as they should in a normal healthy pregnancy. Perhaps you might just need some Provera to jump start your cycle again. Take it one step at a time. Good luck to you, and let us know how it goes.

I am in the same boat as you - I am almost 2 weeks late and no signs of my periods. I have done HPT and all but 1 were negative, ( very faint line) I am off to my GP today for a blood test.

Best of luck & keep me posted on how you go, I hope that you are pregnant!

Usually a HPT can be used to determine pregnancy the day your period is missed, (the first day you period should be there but isn't) but it's possible you could just have low hormone levels and be pregnant and it's just not showing positive on the tests, they are quite accurate but only 97%, which is not 100, so I would suggest going to the doctor for sure.

Ladies, please look at the dates of the posts. This one was in July and the OP has never come back to the site. She most likely by now has already figured out whether she is pregnant.
