I've got a 2000 excursion and over the years the power locks have stopped working and at this point I've only got one that does work.
Does anyone out there have a remedy?

My guess... they didn't all fail at one time? Likely, over the course of a few months or years?

What has happened is the door lock actuator motor has worn or corroded to the point where it comppletely stops.

The door lock actuator is what "actually" moves the lock rods inside the door.

Any actuators that have become inoperative will require replacement.

I need to know what is the best solution to this problem, are they repairable, do they need to be replaced, OEM replacements or after-market replacements and where do I get them and for about how much?
Thanks much, david

Sorry, as I stated before, if the actuator has become inoperative it will require replacement. In some instances, you may be able to free it up slightly but that is a very short term fix, and not worth having to R&R the door panel again.

I prefer to do a repair only once.

Both factory dealer and aftermarket will have these available. I would prefer OE parts (I'm a dealership technician), but I would still shop around local parts stores and compare prices.

But, you have to also consider: If you buy the parts but can't put them in yourself, you'll have to find a shop that will install your part. If they do agree to install your part, they may crank up the labor to cover lost profit by not selling you the part with their mark-up, and you will not get a guarantee.

You wouldn't take a steak into a restaurant to have them cook it, would you?

Good luck!

Hey Capt'n,
I can do the work myself I just want to learn as much about this as a I can before jumping in.

As for the OEM parts - that's what I've got in there and they lasted maybe 2-3 years - has FORD improved on this part? If not then I'm OK with trying an alternative.

There's a great deal to be said for having the experts do the work, many are truly experts others not quite. I'm certainily willing to pay and expert for expert service but if I don't need to I really don't like making the dealerships any richer.
As for the steak, sometimes I will pay someone else to grill it but many times I'll buy it and grill it myself - and that is often a better overall experience.

Thanks man!

A call to the Ford parts department should do. Ask them if they've had any product upgrades on actuators. I would have no way of knowing. I am a GM tech, specializing in Cadillac.

And I can't say how long aftermarket parts last either, but my experience has been, for any of several reasons, to use OE. They generally fit better. And frequently someone who sells for less knows why: Skimping on quality. That's not true in all cases, just more often than not. I'll say it again; shop around.

If you want to do the repair yourself, then by all means, GO! I like that kind of spirit!
