Milk is produced after delivery. During pregnancy a woman produces a substance called colostrum that contains essential immunities for the baby.

Might I add one thing? Your milk supply doesn't usually come right after delivery, and can take up to 2 days before arriving. :)

Yes, also, your milk supply will not come in at all if you are not breastfeeding in many women.

Very true. Although I was one of the unlucky ones. With my first son I bottle fed and still had to endure the annoyance of swollen and uncomfortable breasts :(

Your milk supply doesn't come in right after delivery? What do you do if you are planning to breast feed? Do you have to bottle feed for a few days? If so, how do you make your milk come in? This is something I have never heard before and never really thought to ask.

In the first one or two days after delivering, your breasts produce colostrum, which is not breast milk, but has enough nutrients in it to satisfy the baby.

You would not have to bottle feed, the colostrum will do the job, and your milk supply would come 1-2 days after delivering. Trust me, when it comes, you'll know it. :)
