I have had pretty regular cycles since I was 13. I got off birth control a little over a year ago. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since January (we also have a 5 year old son) and it seems like ever since then, my periods have been crazy. Between January and March my periods were between 38-41 days. I didn't have a period in April or May (of course I thought I was pregnant) so I went to the doctor and they gave me Prometrium to make me start and I started on June 9th. Well July rolls around and NO PERIOD. So I called the Dr and she puts me on Prometrium again! I have a Dr Appt on July 31st I guess to discuss my periods. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

How old are you and how long were you on the pill?

I am 24. I was on the pill from age 17-19. I then got pregnant with my son. Unfortunately I then got on the depo shot (worst idea ever! ) for a year (Jan 03-Jan 04). Then back on the pill from 04-June06.

This could very well be due to the depo. It can take a very long time to get back to normal after being on this form of birth control.

You see you went from Pill to Depo back to Pill. This could be the problem.

What do you mean by problem, does it hurt when you go back and forth?

You are fluctuating your hormones. Hormones are very delicate in balance. So, due to this, it could take a very long time to get you back to your natural hormonal state. Have you discussed this with your OB/GYN?

Yes, I have. I told her about the Depo, but she didn't check my hormones, she just put me on the prometrium and said to let her know if I didn't start. I did last month, but not this month. I just find it strange that my periods were normal off birth control for 6 months then goes crazy as soon as I start trying for a baby

I would ask for a hormone check.
