My mothers concrete steps are breaking up on the top and the steps are at least 40 years old. Do you think if I chipped away the weak concrete on top and resurfaced them they would last or would the older concrete deteriorate underneath the resurfaced step? If resurfacing is the best choice, what is the best method.

Thanks,
Tim

Most home centers sell fairly good concrete patch kits that would meet your needs. The job will not blend in very well and it may only last 3-5 years.

Hello,

You would haft to chip away all the top layer of concrete on the top, what has happened is
The chemical you used to resurface the concrete has weekend it over the years. Try to
Chip away all you can and then sand it down for resurfacing.

From the looks of that you'd really need to replace the pad at the top, its looks as if it is only 4" or so thick, I don't think it would take a lot to break it up and start new, if not you can patch but like the above said its not going to last
