What are my first steps in finding what is wrong with my Kenmore washing machine? The spin cycle has stopped, yet it still sounds as if it is spinning, but the spool inside the washer does not move at all. I have done enough research to know that it is a direct drive washing machine. Any ideas?

Thanks,

A 70 series Kenmore (made by Whirlpool for Sears) has an agitator like most upper level washing machines, that doesn't turn in a complete circle, rather it shifts about half way around, then rotates back, has "staircase" looking fins on the agitator that grab your clothes, pull them down over and over to assist in cleaning. You said it doesn't move at all, if so, something's wrong and it's beyond my epertise, ability to help you here. It should go into spin cycle and if not, along with the agitator not moving at all, I think you need a technician to visit. If it's less than one yr old, you have a full warranty.
