OK... I admit I made the mistake of asking a home depot person a question and the answer they gave me made no sense as per my knowledge and I wanted to as if anyone on here knows for sure before I risk eletricuting my family...

Basically, when running wire outside, it is my understanding that the wire has to always be protected (not exposed to the elements) and this can be done with PVC or Metal conduit... the home depot guy said that's not true, and I can use outdoor cable which has a heaver sheating to protect it... now I was under the impression that it always had to be protected even if its outdoor cable...

Can someone clarify for me?

UF cable can be installed without conduit, but must not be located in such a path that it can be damaged.
