My outside AC unit is not working. When I turn it to cool at the thermostat the furnace blower starts and a few seconds later the contacts on the outside unit engage, but the fan does not turn. It is not seized. Is this a capacitor problem?

Thanks

Is it that neither the compressor and fan do not start? Or does the compressor start and not the fan? Do you have 220V at the contactor? Is it just the 24V coil pulling in the contactor But no power passing through contactor? I have seen many times the coil would pull in the contacts but a bug or spider had gotten between contacts to keep them from fully closing. If you suspect capacitor, spin the fan and see if it takes off. You can also visually look at capacitor and see if the top is bulged or if you see oil on it. Good Luck and post back with results. Many good folks here willing to help you

Check your breakers going to the A/C unit inside at your main breaker box and out side at the A/C. Flip the breakers to off and then back to on. Give us more info. Good luck.

The compressor and fan do not start. When I spin the fan it does not start, and the capacitor looks fine. There were signs of bugs inside... cocoons etc, vacuumed that out, didn't see any bugs in the contacts.

I am getting 240V outside, however, once the contacts engage one of the fuses on my splitter box blows, fan spins freely but will not start, doesn't sound like compressor is staring either. Is one of those causing the fuses to blow?

Thanks,
I know with your help we will get to the bottom of this.
