I'm looking to start my own insurance company, but don't know much about it. How do I go about getting licensed to sell insurance? Once I get licensed, will I then be able to open my own business and sell insurance policies?

It would help to know where you live in order to be more helpful in an answer to you.

You also might like to check out information on the sites that are on the following link:

For example to become a licensed insurance agent in TN, you have to have a number of class room hours in an approved pre licnese school, and pass a test. There are separate tests for Health, Life, Property and Causalty insurance. ( plus more for bonds, investments and so on)

For many companies you will have to work out of their office or work under a local manager. For some companies, you will have to buy a agency from the company.

If you can tell me what state and what type of insurance you want to sell I may have some closer advice.
