I have a Kenmore 80 Series washer, model number 100. 16862503. I noticed that when the water is being pumped out the drum is not spinning. After I open and close the lid when it is pumping out the drum starts spinning. Is this a problem I should be concerned with?

Could be an indication of a bad lid switch. Just had that same issue this week. On some models an imbalance switch will cause this as well. If the load is off balance or too much water is in unit it will interrupt power and once you open lid it resets. Also check the unit is level. Good luck

The spin cycle does not happen until the drum is nearly empty. The spin is part of the rinse not the drain cycle.

This unit should pump out first before it spins. If it doesn't it would eventually burn up your clutch . By opening the lid you are activating the spin before it has emptied. This unit stops for a second or two before it spins and you are simulating this when you open the lid. Hope this helps.
