I own an old building that we want to turn into a hunting cabin. I want to install a shower over the existing concrete floor, but would like to avoid breaking up the concrete. There is a 3" drain running to the septic tank that is next to where I want to install the shower. This drain has two sinks tying into it now. My question is can I raise the shower up off the floor to allow room for the drain? I was thinking I could raise the shower up 6 inches or so to make enough room. Is this just a bad idea, or what? Remember this is only used a few months out of the year, so looks are not all that important. Also, what is the recommended diameter of pipe for a shower drain, 2 inch or 1 1/2 inch?

Yes, It's possible to platform the shower base and pipe the discharge over to the floor drain with a indirect waste,( one that doesn't connect directly to the drain but sets over it). You will not need to trap it since the trap in the floor drain will service the shower. Good luck, Tom

I appreciate the help, but I need to make reword my question. I shouldn't have said 3" drain..instead I have a 3" pipe running from the septic tank up through the floor and out the roof. This pipe has two sinks tied into it. I guess it would still be okay, I would just need to add a trap. Thanks Speedball

New game plan. You will not only need to tee into the stack and add a trap but you will also have to vent it. The shower vent can come off a upright tee just after the trap and revent back into one of the sink vents. Good luck, Tom
