Me and My husband is trying to get pregnant but I had a queston this has been bugging me for a while.. . I am scared that I can't get pregnant.. . I have had chlamydia 2 times well after the first time the dr told me that my test was inconclusive and they just said I had it and gave me the antibiotics as a precaution because I was like 16 at the time well if I did have it I would have had it for like 5 months and then same for the second time I had a urinary tract infection and they discovered that I also had chlamydia well if I did I would have had that for about 5 6 or 7 months also.. . But I did hear that if you had it there's a chance you can't get pregnant do you think I would be able to ? After all that I did get another pap and she found abnormal cancerous cells so we did another pap to test it again and it was the same and she did a chlytopomy thing and she said it was nothing to worry about that it was just a few gathered cells but nothing serious.. . Would she have told me at one of those paps if I am infertile or no ? Do you think I can get pregnant ?

Chlamydia can cause adhesions (scarring) of the fallopian tubes, blocking them which can prevent or impede conception and increase the chance of ectopic pregnancy. This is not a definite outcome in all cases, but a very real possibility that happens to millions of women.

The precancerous cells were more than likely caused by HPV, and will not usually affect future pregnancies.

So the answer is you may have tubal problems, but the only way to know for sure is to have a test called an HSG. You can certainly discuss it with your GYN and see if he/she has other suggestions.

Unfortunately we cannot tell you whether you can get pregnant.

Here is a good website that details the more serious side effects of Chlamydia (http://www.cdc.gov/std/Chlamydia/STDFact-Chlamydia.htm) that has been left untreated as long or longer than you had it.

Now, from just a pap smear, the doctor cannot tell if you are infertile. There are other tests that must be done to confirm infertility.

It would be in your best interest to make a doctor's appointment and discuss your concerns in detail.
