Hiya guys, second question already, sorry.

I've had this lump on my finger for almost 3 years now, longtime yup. When I asked the doctor what it was, she said it was just a ganglion... and that I should just smack a book on it, ashamed to say I said she was stupid and that was that, as I know that is only a myth (the book she told me to use? A bible.. ).

3 years later it's still annoying the hell out of me. I'm absolutely stuck into art, that means holding a pencil/pen all day long, the lump is located on the joint of the middle finger on my left hand nearest to the nail.

Actually, it doesn't hurt at all, only when I irritate it by using stroke preasure with pens and stuff, it goes red and soft (otherwise its rockhard, almost like bone).

So for about 1.5 years now, I have been using bandages, surgical tape, to cover it up when I'm doing my arts... I'm fine, if I have to live doing that its not too much of a problem... however if anyone knows how to get rid of it, your awesome.

PS: the reason I use tape/bandage is so I don't end up scarring or irritating the skin itself, and possibly cause some infection into the joint, just being safe!

Go to a dermatologist, I don;'t think it is what you say. I had a bum like that it turned out to be a calous because I applied too much pressure on that area while writing.

Heya thanks for the almost instant reply!

Would this be what your referring to? Callus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callus)

The lump on my finger is nothing like that, its just normal skin that has a rocksolid bump under it. :-(

Then a better option would be an orthapedic

LMAO, it used to be common to smack a book, especially a bible, on a ganglion cyst. There are other means of draining and/or treating this condition this day in age. However, every situation is different. You should contact an orthopedic physician regarding your particular situation.

Just for the record... your doctor really is an idiot... smack it with a book? Really? Get it checked out by a REAL doctor. You can remove a ganglion cyst by smacking it with a book, yes. But it will likely grow back bigger. A more reliable way is to see a doctor and ask them to remove it either by getting the liquid inside it drained with a syringe or by surgically removing it altogether. I've had mine since I was like 12. I chose to ignore it for the longest time and now its really starting to hurt when I touch it or move my finger (mine being in the base of my ring finger by my palm) hope I helped

I have it as well on the joint of my middle finger, it's red and if I apply moisturiser cream to it, it become soft, if I don't it becomes hard and dry
