What is an appropriate monetary gift for a neighbor's h.s. graduation? They are a nice family, and we dog sit for them and they for us, but the kids have never bothered to talk to us much, or do anything for us, even though we are quite a bit older than there parents.
He is going to the local college and I thought he could use the money for books.
Thanks,
Bonnie

When I was in college 50 dollars would usually buy me a book :)

Are you really thinking for giving the young man some money? Why not give him something he will find more useful -- books, new schoolbag, or perhaps his senior portrait from photo (http://www.portraitkingdom.com/portraitfromphoto.php)?

As a librarian, I suggest Roget's Thesaurus, Strunk & White's Elements of Style, or a daytimer.
