First I want to say thanks for the help so far. I had to replace the pull chain switch in a Hampton Bay fan. I was unsure of the wire configuration and was able to find some helpful information to get me started. I have installed the switch and the fan now works on all 3 speeds, but it will not stop running using the pull chain. The only way to get it to stop is with the wall switch. I rearranged the wires, but that didn't make a difference. Any suggestions on what I might try next? The house is being sold and I either need to get the fan to work correctly or replace it.
Thanks,
Stratmando

What colors do you have on L, 1, 2, and 3?
One option. Find combination for high speed, connect without switch, and install Fan control?
Colors important.

The colors are:
L - Black
1 - Orange
2 - Purple
3 - Yellow
I'm not clear what you mean by "Find combination for high speed, connect without switch, and install Fan control?" From the testing I did, the high speed wire is orange.
Thanks,

Try:
L Orange
1 Black
2 Yellow
3 Purple
Hope that works.
I was saying, pull until high speed, remove switch, check combination of switch contacts.
Duplicate with wirenuts instead of switch.
L may connect to 2 numbers at a time. (L connected to 1+2 for 1 of the Speeds)

Thanks! Switching the wires seems to have fixed the problem. Everything seems to be working fine now.
