Hi, we just got a dapple daschund and can't seem to get him to eat. He is playful but also sleeps a lot. He has all of his shots except for one. He is 10 weeks old. Also, is it OK to leave him home alone in a crate while we are out? Any advice?

Are you offering him what the breeder was feeding? Usually it is best to continue it and slowly change over to something else if you want to. It could just be the change. I would give him a few days. Not eating for a few days won't hurt him. If he is not eating by Monday, maybe call the vet.

A crate is the best possible place for an unattended dog. Unfortunately you should not leave an 11 week old puppy confined anywhere for more than 4-5 hours. They need a chance to relieve themselves and a mid day meal. If none of you can make it back, perhaps you could find a responsible teenager out of school and happy to have a few bucks to give the puppy mid day care. By the time school starts, the dog will be older and able to go longer.
