View Full Version : Not sure what I should do

I have a little problem and I'm not sure what I should do, or if there's anything I can do for that matter. I've been living in my apartment for about a year and a half. Everything was okay when I moved in. I did have to go through and clean it because they kind of did it half-a**** if you know what I mean. But now I'm having all these problems with it. My a/c keeps going out and they come over to look at it and say there's nothing wrong with it. Their excuse is "its just so hot outside", but to me that's not an excuse, its all the more reason the a/c should work. The caulking around both of my bathtubs is cracked and mold grows up through it. I bleach and scrub it until I'm about to go crazy but it still just keeps growing back. They won't fix that either. My front bathroom toilet runs and runs up my water bill with it, again they won't fix it. There is absolutely no parking. There is supposed to be a 2 car rule but they don't abide by it, and there are broken down cars just taking up parking spaces. The management hired people to come and paint the buildings, and they have hit and painted on my brand new car (only 3 months old). We have a huge paved lot that serves no purpose but to take up space, it has maybe 8 parking spots, and people like to spin doughnuts on it in the middle of the night. Someone's car has already gotten hit due to that. There are constant drug deals and drug using around here and no one seems to care, not even the police. Most of the apartment complexes where I live have police live in them to act as security, but not this one. The ladies in the office are unhelpful and VERY rude, and for the quality work the maintenance men do around here, I could probably do their job. It costs a lot of money to break my lease and on E-4 military pay I can't afford it. Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?

You sure have some problems, and I do sympathize. I have asked that your question get copied or moved to real estate law, as I think you may get a better answer there, your questions may get overlooked here.

Ok you have a lease that you can't break, doesn't the lease also mean the management has some responsibilities also? Do you have proof of the person or persons that caused the damage to your car? Does the military have any legal services that you can use to help you get these people to clean up their act?

Just some thoughts, I know not much help. If admin does not move this question for you, perhaps you can to help you get some better answers.

I do wish you the best.

Hello sailor:

Sure, there are lots of things you can do. The first one would be to read your lease. Most leases revert to month to month after the first year. I'll bet yours did too. If so, the answer is clear - give your 30 day notice.

If that's not so, let me know, and I'll come up with plan "B".

PS> By the way, when you're purchasing material to satisfy your 420ness, isn't that a drug deal?

Also, I don't have a month to month lease. I renewed my lease for another year and after I renewed is when all these problems started.
