Do I Need a Humidifier with a High Efficiency Unit?
I am about to install brand new high efficiency furnace and AC in my 1984 built home north of Toronto. I thought I also needed a humidifier but one of the potential vendors explained that with high efficiency setups the need for a humidier is not obvious and usually unnecessary.

    What say you?
    Thanks

All furnaces do the same thing, they heat the air, some cost less to operate then others, the need for a humidifier may be more so in colder areas then in areas with milder winters, the colder the air the less moisture it may contain and as you heat this air the relative percentage of humidity drops. This air now will attract moisture from you causing you to feel colder as this moisture evaporates from your skin, it will also dry out your sinuses and everything in you house. As the moisture evaporates from your skin you feel cold and turn the thermostat up higher to feel warmer or you can induce moisture into the air at the furnace through a humidifier and feel more comfortable at a lower room temperature and save money on your fuel bill.
I guess my vote is to add a humidifier . Good luck , Mike
